 | The Tornagrain site was identified by The Highland Council - along with others in Inverness and Nairn - as suitable for accommodating some of the growth of the Inverness area. The Council have now approved a finalised A96 corridor strategy for the area which will now be fed into the next Draft Local Development Plan for the area.
We promoted Tornagrain because we believe it is excellently positioned to create a new planned community.
Tornagrain:
- has excellent transport links, being close to the A96 and the Aberdeen-Inverness railway line, for which a new station is proposed near the airport
- is beside the planned Inverness Airport Business Park, which is expected to create up to 5,000 full-time jobs when complete
- has the potential to be a model of sustainable development.

In 2004 we, and our advisors, undertook an extensive study tour of Scotland, the rest of the UK, Holland, Denmark and the USA.
We looked at communities new and old to find out not just what has worked best, but also what hasn’t worked well at all.
This work, and the appointment of Andres Duany, has fuelled our desire to create a town that’s fully in line with traditional design principles.
In September 2006 our vision started to take shape during the design charrette.
