One of the features of the charrette, which is unusual in participative planning exercises, was that as well as producing masterplan options in front of participants there were illustrators to create artists’ impressions of parts of the developing masterplan.
This allowed participants to visualise not just architecture, as this was down to the choice of the illustrator, but more importantly scale, relationship of buildings to the street and to each other.
